Paradigm Shifts of Public Spaces: Wilmington by Alexandria P. Clay and Anthony Patterson, presented by The Black on Black Project

Paradigm shift: An important change that happens when the usual way of thinking about or doing something is replaced by a new and different way.

In “Paradigm Shifts of Public Spaces: Wilmington,” artists Alexandria P. Clay and Anthony Patterson examine what happens to African-American public spaces after a paradigm shift disrupts communities. Using the Wilmington race riot of 1898 and the Wilmington Ten story as catalysts, the artists present their take on public spaces that provided comfort, support and prioritized African-American identities during those respective times. Through collages and paintings, Clay and Patterson examine these spaces before and after the events. #PSPSWilmington #ALWilmington
